Bailey Murphy + Scarano (BMS)is the strong result of a merger between two CPA firms with firm roots and complementary clients in Connecticut – Bailey Schaefer & Errato (BSE) and Murphy Sloman & Company. Both companies have long histories in the certified public accounting field.

Bailey Schaefer & Errato was founded in 1992, but its partners had all come from the firm Bailey Moore Glazer Schaefer & Proto (BMGSP). BMGSP was founded in New Haven in 1916 by a member of the Bailey family. The Bailey family firm grew and prospered for decades, changing partners and names, until it ultimately became BMGSP in the 1970’s. Eventually, Alan Bailey, David Bailey, Michael Schaefer, and Andrew Errato started their own firm, along with an established client base that elected to continue their association with the partners. In 1998, Dominic Scarano, Jr. was admitted to the partnership, filling the position of Alan Bailey, David’s father, who had retired. Michael Bailey, David’s brother, was admitted to the partnership in 2004.

Murphy & Company was formed in 1983 by Camille Murphy. William Sloman had been a partner in Sloman & Diamantini since 1986. Camille and Bill decided to merge their businesses in 1992, forming Murphy Sloman & Company.

If experience is our greatest teacher, the combined histories of Bailey Murphy + Scarano show that its partners know a few things about growth, succession, mergers, opportunity, and change management. This enriches their perspective as financial partners with their clients, who share these same experiences and their resultant challenges.

Bailey Murphy + Scarano utilize decades of experience and knowledge to expertly fulfill the needs of their family owned and closely held business clients. The firm is a long term sponsor and accounting partner of the University of New Haven Center for Family Business. Visit the Family Business page for further information on their capabilities.
